Taobao is the largest online marketplace in China where a dizzying assortment of products is available at extremely low prices. While the buyers and sellers are overwhelmingly Chinese, you too can buy all sorts of goods even if you live outside China as long as you deal with a Taobao agent. One of the most important things to be considered when buying products on an online marketplace is the reliability of the seller. There are so many sellers on Taobao, and most of them are quite reliable, that you will definitely be able to select a good one as long as you know what to look for. Keep in mind that you might not personally know of any other buyers and will not be able to ask them for feedback.
Use the following tips to evaluate prospective sellers:
1. The seller should have done a reasonable number of transactions. Obviously, companies that have sold large numbers of products can be trusted to sell you high quality 集運 products. However, if a smaller seller offers a unique product that you really must have then you should look for a minimum of 200-300 transactions done by the company.
2. Check the customer feedback of the seller. If the company has at least a 90% positive rating (and it has done a few hundred transactions) then you can confidently buy from it. Red flowers on the rating chart indicate positive feedback whereas yellow flowers are neutral and black flowers are negative feedback. You should also get into the details of the feedback, especially negative ones, in order to figure out for yourself whether the feedback is valid. If the seller does not have any feedback then it means that it is new to this business and the transaction might be a risky one.
3. Study Taobao’s own rating of the seller. This will help you assess it on the basis of Attitude, Speed and Accuracy.
You do need to do a bit of research on order to select the best possible seller on Taobao even if you eventually buy them via a Taobao agent. This is the best way to ensure that you have a positive experience when you buy from Taobao since you might have a tough time getting a refund from an unreliable seller. This is also of the greatest importance if you plan to source products from China to sell to your own customers.
